Here's my first pass on a quick Robot Fight Test. This is still in rough blocking, so timing and posing is most certainly still under scrutiny. Feedback is most welcome. The camera move is still rough too, and i didn't pose stuff to camera in the second shot yet (as i didn't originally plan on it being a 2 shot.)
Would love to hear what anyone thinks!
Kung Fu Week is coming to a close... maybe.. haha. Should have a blocking pass on my fight sequence up this evening.
Another day, another robot martial arts pose. Gearing up for a fight test using this rig called 'Roboter.' He's a good looking rig and so far mostly works pretty well. Not as much control as I'd like. For one, the spine only has 2 controllers, and one of them is the hips... So the only way to get bend in the spine is at the hips and that little circle area at the stomach. I'm used to like 4 or so controllers on the spine, but it's surprisingly flexible given it's limitations. Also there's no reel 'shrug' shoulder controls, and the FK controls on the arms are a little funky. Wish it had those shoulder shrugs to give me some more emotion, but that's the challenge of working with unfamiliar rigs (as i imagine it's like in the workplace) make what you have work how you want it!! I should have a blocking pass on my Fight test up by the end of the week. In the meantime, here's my Pose-A-Day:
If it seems like i just up and disappeared off the grid for a bit it's because.. well.. i did. haha. To celebrate my 5th anniversary to my lovely wife and my recent graduation from Animation Mentor, we decided to gallivant around Europe for an extended holiday. We chose to do so incommunicado with no internet or phones to distract us and.. yes... no computers. So if it seems like i was slacking it's because i was. haha.
We had an absolutely amazing adventure and for the first time in god knows how long i wasn't thinking about computers or drawings or animation or poses. I thought only about my wife, wine and pizza. I'll have a longer post about my travels once we weed our way through our 1000's of photos, but suffice it to say it was fantastic.
In any case, i'm back now and back to the challenge! So we go! I just watched an AMAZING webinar with Dr. Sumida via AM called 'Anatomy of a Fight.' It was fricking awesome, and inspired to get me cracking on a short fight clip. In the spirit of that i suspect most of this weeks poses will be 'Fight' oriented. Without further ado... today's pose:
Animator, artist, musician and all around pretty awesome guy.
